National supply pipeline — starts and permits

Housing starts and building permits are forward-looking supply indicators. They do not replace local MLS inventory, but they explain whether builders are adding single-family and multifamily units nationwide. Educational commentary only — not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice.

Total housing starts registered 1427k (SAAR) on 2026-06-01 — +19.0% MoM, +3.5% YoY.

Building permits were 1367k (SAAR) on 2026-06-01 (-3.0% MoM, -2.3% YoY). Permits typically lead starts by a few months.

Single-family starts alone were 895k (SAAR) on 2026-06-01 (-0.2% MoM, -3.2% YoY) — the segment most relevant to Corona, Eastvale, and Temescal Valley resale buyers comparing against new construction.

What this means in the Inland Empire

The IE still has active master-planned communities — Eastvale, Ontario Ranch, Temescal Valley, and scattered infill — but established neighborhoods in Corona Hills or Wood Streets do not magically gain inventory when national starts dip.

Buyers comparing new construction to resale should weigh builder incentives, Mello-Roos, and timeline risk against move-in-ready resale with known HOA rules.

Sellers in supply-constrained pockets may still see multiple offers when pricing aligns with recent comps and presentation is strong.
